1923 – the first graduation of teachers by higher pedagogical courses.

1930 – the Institute of Social Education was founded.

1933 – Melitopol State Pedagogical Institute was founded.

1977 – the creation of a research institute “Biodiversity”.

2000 – Melitopol State Pedagogical Institute received the status of University IV level of accreditation.

Over the years, the educational institution has trained more than 30,000 specialists who work successfully both in Ukraine and abroad.  In 2004, the staff of the University for the significant contribution to the development of education in the country was awarded the Gratitude Certificate of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

2009 – named after Bogdan Khmelnitsky.

Since November 25, 2011 the rector of the University has been appointed Doctor of Philosophy, Professor Molodchenko V.V.

In 2013, the university celebrated 90 years of its foundation.

Since November 14, 2017, the doctor of biological sciences, associate professor, Anatoly Nikolayevich Solonenko was appointed to the position of rector.
